          Abstract

          OBJECTIVE:

to describe the validation process of an educational booklet for healthy eating in pregnancy using local and regional food.

          METHODS:

methodological study, developed in three steps: construction of the educational booklet, validation of the educational material by judges, and by pregnant women. The validation process was conducted by 22 judges and 20 pregnant women, by convenience selection. We considered a p-value<0.85 to validate the booklet compliance and relevance, according to the six items of the instrument. As for content validation, the item-level Content Validity Index (I-CVI) was considered when a minimum score of at least 0.80 was obtained.

          RESULTS:

five items were considered relevant by the judges. The mean I-CVI was 0.91. The pregnant women evaluated positively the booklet. The suggestions were accepted and included in the final version of the material.

          CONCLUSION:

the booklet was validated in terms of content and relevance, and should be used by nurses for advice on healthy eating during pregnancy.

Methods for establishing the accuracy of clinical indicators in predicting nursing diagnoses.

To describe the methodological stages in determining the accuracy of clinical indicators in identifying nursing diagnoses.   Literature review of diagnostic tests.   The methodological stages described include concept analysis, content analysis by experts, and accuracy analysis of clinical indicators.   The theory underlying the development of diagnostic tests can be used to evaluate the accuracy of clinical indicators in identifying nursing diagnoses.   Knowledge of the accuracy characteristics of clinical indicators allows the identification and discrimination of the most suitable nursing diagnoses. © 2012, The Authors. Designing effective written health education materials: considerations for health professionals.

Written health education materials can only be effective if they can be read, understood, and remembered by patients. The purpose of this article was to review the literature about features that should be incorporated into written health education materials to maximize their effectiveness, identify where there is consensus and debate about which features should be incorporated, and develop recommendations that health professionals can use when reviewing their existing materials and designing new materials. Literature review of published research and education articles. There is a large number of features that need to be considered when designing written health education materials so that they are suitable for the target audience and effective. Although there is consensus about the majority of features that should be included, further research is needed to explore the contribution of certain features, such as illustrations, to the effectiveness of written materials and the effect of well-designed written materials on patient outcomes. Health professionals need to provide their patients with written health education materials that are patient-orientated and designed according to the best practice principles in written health education material design.
