          Abstract

          Este estudo caracterizou as diferenças e semelhanças no repertório de habilidades sociais de crianças de 12 diferentes categorias de necessidades educativas especiais: autismo, deficiência auditiva, deficiência intelectual leve, deficiência intelectual moderada, deficiência visual, desvio fonológico, dificuldades de aprendizagem, dotação e talento, problemas de comportamento externalizantes, problemas de comportamento internalizantes, problemas de comportamento internalizantes e externalizantes e transtorno de déficit de atenção e hiperatividade. Professores de 120 alunos de escolas regulares e especiais, com idades entre seis e 14 anos, de quatro estados brasileiros, responderam ao Sistema de Avaliação de Habilidades Sociais. As crianças com TDAH, autismo, problemas de comportamento internalizantes e externalizantes e problemas de comportamento externalizantes apresentaram comparativamente menor frequência de habilidades sociais. São discutidas as necessidades de intervenção de cada categoria avaliada.

          This study characterizes the differences and similarities in the repertoire of social skills of children from 12 different categories of special educational needs: autism, hearing impairment, mild intellectual disabilities, moderate intellectual disabilities, visual impairment, phonological disorder, learning disabilities, giftedness and talent, externalizing behavior problems, internalizing behavior problems, internalizing and externalizing behavior problems and attention deficit hyperactivity disorder. Teachers of 120 students in regular and special schools, aged between 6 and 14 years old, from four Brazilian states, responded to the Social Skills Rating System. Children with ADHD, autism, internalizing and externalizing behavior problems and externalizing behavior problems presented comparatively lower frequency of social skills. The intervention needs of each evaluated category are discussed.

          En este estudio se caracterizaron las diferencias y similitudes en el repertorio de habilidades sociales de los niños, con base en doce diferentes categorías de necesidades educativas especiales: autismo, dificultades de aprendizaje, discapacidad auditiva, discapacidad intelectual leve, discapacidad intelectual moderada, discapacidad visual, problemas de conducta exteriorizados, problemas de conducta internalizados, problemas de conducta internalizados y exteriorizados, superdotación y talento, trastorno fonológico y trastorno por déficit de atención e hiperactividad. Los maestros de 120 estudiantes en las escuelas regulares y especiales, de edades comprendidas entre 6 y 14 años, de cuatro Estados brasileños, respondió las escalas del Social Skills Rating System. Los niños con TDAH, autismo, problemas de conducta interiorizados y exteriorizados, y problemas de conducta exteriorizados mostraron frecuencias comparativamente más bajas de habilidades sociales. Se discuten las necesidades de intervención de cada categoría evaluada.

              Prosocial foundations of children's academic achievement.

              The present longitudinal research demonstrates robust contributions of early prosocial behavior to children's developmental trajectories in academic and social domains. Both prosocial and aggressive behaviors in early childhood were tested as predictors of academic achievement and peer relations in adolescence 5 years later. Prosocialness included cooperating, helping, sharing, and consoling, and the measure of antisocial aspects included proneness to verbal and physical aggression. Prosocialness had a strong positive impact on later academic achievement and social preferences, but early aggression had no significant effect on either outcome. The conceptual model accounted for 35% of variance in later academic achievement, and 37% of variance in social preferences. Additional analysis revealed that early academic achievement did not contribute to later academic achievement after controlling for effects of early prosocialness. Possible mediating processes by which prosocialness may affect academic achievement and other socially desirable developmental outcomes are proposed.
