          Abstract

A 73-year-old female was operated with radical nephrectomy and cholecystectomy for renal cell carcinoma and suspected gallstones after 9 courses of sunitinib treatment. Gallbladder specimen showed gallbladder metastasis originating from the renal cell carcinoma. Gallbladder metastasis from renal cell carcinoma is rare. Here, we discuss a case of gallbladder metastasis from renal cell carcinoma.

Renal cell carcinoma metastatic to the gallbladder or prostate: two case reports.

Although metastatic renal cell carcinoma (RCC) is not uncommon, dissemination to the gallbladder or prostate is very rare. We present 1 case of RCC with synchronous metastasis to the gallbladder and 1 case of RCC with metachronous metastasis to the prostate. These cases illustrate the propensity of RCC for unpredictable presentation and unusual sites of metastases. The first case also illustrates the benefit of adjuvant nephrectomy with excision of a solitary metastasis. Patterns of RCC metastases and flow cytometric analysis of RCC are discussed.

Metastatic carcinoma of the gallbladder from renal cancer presenting as intraluminal polypoid mass.

We report a rare case of secondary involvement of the gallbladder by metastatic renal cell carcinoma. A 71-year-old man was diagnosed as having a polypoid mass within the gallbladder when he underwent right nephrectomy for a renal cell carcinoma. A preoperative diagnosis of simultaneous carcinoma of the gallbladder was made, and extended cholecystectomy with regional lymphadenectomy was performed five months after the initial operation. Postoperative histological examination of the polypoid mass within the gallbladder and a pancreatic mass excised during the second surgery revealed these resected tumors to be identical to the clear cell type of renal cell carcinoma. We feel that this case presents synchronous involvement of the gallbladder and pancreas by metastatic renal cell carcinoma of the right kidney.
