          Abstract

          Translated abstract

Abstract Native people preserve traditional beverages, which are part of their biocultural heritage, which integrate knowledge, knowledge and practices and which are important for their social reproduction. In Cuetzalan del Progreso, a Nahua town in the state of Puebla, Mexico, Yolixpa is produced, a traditional drink that has been on the tourist scene since 2014, through the Yolixpa festival. This celebration has been key in the promotion, diffusion and commercialization of the drink, therefore the objective of this study was to show the effects that the festival has caused on the drink, from the perspective of the different actors involved in it; for this, a qualitative methodological strategy was used. It was observed that the festival is valued differently by the actors involved, who perceive positive and negative effects and, based on this, manage the drink in a different way: some as liquor and others as medicinal drink; which puts the permanence of the Yolixpa at risk as Cuetzalan’s masehual heritage.
