          Abstract

Constipation is a common, often chronic, gastrointestinal motility disorder characterized by such symptoms as straining, hard stool, and infrequent defecation. Published literature is limited regarding symptom prevalence, healthcare-seeking behaviour, and patient satisfaction with traditional therapies for chronic constipation.
