          Abstract

          Resumen: La ventaja cooperativa es una estrategia, que se funda en la privación de la oposición y que descubre la cooperación como la única forma posible de enfrentar las demandas de sustentabilidad que impone la sociedad democrática, permitiendo relaciones de mejor calidad con el entorno y construyendo contextos de confianza, que satisfacen las expectativas de todos los stakeholder de manera más óptima. Además, posibilita la creación de valor social y económico, esto es, incrementar la ventaja competitiva del mundo privado, aportar en la creación de riqueza, pero al mismo tiempo mitigar los efectos sociales indeseados que produce este tipo de generación de valor, incorporando otras dimensiones como la inclusión, la igualdad de oportunidades, la justicia social, la equidad organizacional, la participación deliberante, la transparencia y la meritocracia, en pos de una sociedad que profundiza y perfecciona su democracia.

          Abstract: Cooperative advantage is a strategy based on the deprivation of opposition and on unveiling cooperation as the only possible way to face the demands of sustainability imposed by democratic society, allowing improved quality relationships with the environment, building trustworthy contexts, which meet the expectations of all stakeholders in a more optimal manner. Furthermore, it allows the creation of social and economic value, meaning increasing the competitive advantage of the private sector, contributing to the creation of wealth, but at the same time mitigate the unwilling social effects produced by this type of value generation, incorporating other dimensions such as: inclusion, equal opportunities, social justice, organizational equity, deliberative participation, transparency and meritocracy, towards a society that strengthens and improves its democracy.

          Resumo: A vantagem cooperativa é uma estratégia, que funda-se na privação da oposição e que descobre a cooperação como a única forma possível de enfrentar as demandas de sustentabilidade que impõe a sociedade democrática, permitindo relações de melhor qualidade com o entorno e construindo contextos de confiança, que satisfazem as expectativas de todos os stakeholder de maneira mais ótima. Além disso, possibilita a criação de valor social e económico, isto é, incrementar a vantagem competitiva do mundo privado, aportar na criação de riqueza, mas ao mesmo tempo mitigar os efeitos sociais indesejados que produz este tipo de geração de valor, incorporando outras dimensiones como a inclusão, a igualdade de oportunidades, a justiça social, a equidade organizacional, a participação deliberante, a transparência e a meritocracia, em pós de uma sociedade que aprofunda y aperfeiçoa sua democracia.

              The competitive advantage of corporate philanthropy.

              When it comes to philanthropy, executives increasingly see themselves as caught between critics demanding ever higher levels of "corporate social responsibility" and investors applying pressure to maximize short-term profits. In response, many companies have sought to make their giving more strategic, but what passes for strategic philanthropy is almost never truly strategic, and often isn't particularly effective as philanthropy. Increasingly, philanthropy is used as a form of public relations or advertising, promoting a company's image through high-profile sponsorships. But there is a more truly strategic way to think about philanthropy. Corporations can use their charitable efforts to improve their competitive context--the quality of the business environment in the locations where they operate. Using philanthropy to enhance competitive context aligns social and economic goals and improves a company's long-term business prospects. Addressing context enables a company to not only give money but also leverage its capabilities and relationships in support of charitable causes. The produces social benefits far exceeding those provided by individual donors, foundations, or even governments. Taking this new direction requires fundamental changes in the way companies approach their contribution programs. For example, philanthropic investments can improve education and local quality of life in ways that will benefit the company. Such investments can also improve the company's competitiveness by contributing to expanding the local market and helping to reduce corruption in the local business environment. Adopting a context-focused approach goes against the grain of current philanthropic practice, and it requires a far more disciplined approach than is prevalent today. But it can make a company's philanthropic activities far more effective.
