          Abstract

          En este artículo, se identifican las características principales de la publicidad incluida en la revista Vanguardia (1941-1942) y en los periódicos Combate (1944) y Trinchera (1946), todas publicaciones vinculadas con el Partido Comunista de Costa Rica. También se consideran las especificidades de las personas, instituciones y empresas que publicaron anuncios comerciales en esos medios. Finalmente, se analiza en qué medida algunos de los contenidos de tales anuncios se relacionaban con discursos más amplios presentes en la década de 1940 (nacionalismo económico y defensa de la democracia), mientras que otros promovían valores, creencias, visiones de mundo y estilos de vida distintos de la cultura que trataban de difundir los comunistas.

          Translated abstract

          In this article, we identify the main characteristics of the advertising included in the Vanguardia magazine (1941-1942) and the Combate (1944) and Tinchera (1946) newspapers, all of them publications linked with the Communist Party in Costa Rica. It also considers the specific details of the individuals, institutions and companies that published advertisements in these media. Finally, we analyze to what extent some of the contents of those advertisements were related to broader discourses which took place in the 1940s (economic nationalism and defense of democracy), while others promoted values, beliefs, world-views and lifestyles different from the culture the Communists were trying to spread.

          Neste artigo, identificam-se as características principais da publicidade incluída na revista Vanguardia (1941-1942) e nos jornais Combate (1944) e Trinchera (1946), todas publicações ligadas ao Partido Comunista de Costa Rica. Mesmo consideram-se as especificidades das pessoas, instituições e empresas que publicaram anúncios comerciais nessas mídias. Por fim, analisa-se em qual medida alguns dos conteúdos de tais anúncios relacionaram-se com discursos mais abrangentes presentes na década de 1940 (nacionalismo económico e defensa da democracia), no entanto que outros promoviam valores, crenças, visões de mundo e estilos de vida diferentes da cultura que os comunistas tentavam espalhar.
