          Abstract

          Translated abstract

Abstract Jair Bolsonaro was elected president of the Republic in Brazil in the October 2018 race. With a politically authoritarian, socially conservative and economically neoliberal agenda, Bolsonaro articulated what the specialized literature agreed to call a right-wing populism. This article identifies the elements - speeches and public policies - that corroborate this perception. The text is structured in four sections. The first section addresses the theoretical framework of populism from Laclau and Cas Mudde. The second traces the characteristics of Bolsonaro's reactionary populism throughout his thirty years of political life that culminated in his election in 2018. The third presents the bases of authoritarianism present in his first year of government. The fourth section, on the political economy, identifies the elements of its neoliberalism. Our hypothesis is that Jair Bolsonaro reproduces in an extreme way the characteristics of a right-wing populism in Brazil.
