          Abstract

          Translated abstract

Abstract It is known the necessity to change the earthquake resistant design methods to take the control of structural performance and therefore, it is been included new concepts aimed to support the functions and to keep the structural properties and moreover to preserve safety lives. Taking advantage of visual representation, it has been developed methods based on interaction of the non linear static analysis and elastic and inelastic spectral responses. Now effects of superior modes and 3-D analysis are included, and knowing that all loads and resistance phenomena are random by nature, it is pointed out that solutions in terms of conditioned probabilities of maxima accelerations, lateral drifts, damage states, expected losses and decision variables to the feasible levels. Based on these knowledges, it is proposed the mechanisms to apply the earthquake performance based design, looking for the participation of professionals, owners, promoter of engineering projects, builders, and, in general, the society. The levels, performances and methodologies are fitted to the constructive systems used in our country. It is shown examples to applies several performance limit states and using inelastic spectra
