AS PESQUISAS BRASILEIRAS SOBRE TRADUÇÃO E INTERPRETAÇÃO DE LÍNGUAS DE SINAIS: OS ETILS NA PÓS-GRADUAÇÃO EM ESTUDOS DA TRADUÇÃO Translated title: BRAZILIAN RESEARCH ON SIGN LANGUAGES TRANSLATION AND INTERPRETING: THE SLTIS IN GRADUATE PROGRAMS IN TRANSLATION STUDIES

Abstract

Resumo1 A constituição do campo dos Estudos da Tradução e da Interpretação de Línguas de Sinais (ETILS), nos últimos anos, tem sido impulsionada pelas pesquisas sobre a tradução e a interpretação de línguas de sinais, bem como sobre temas afins. Considerando, portanto, a emergência e consolidação desse campo, apresenta-se, neste artigo, um mapeamento de pesquisas brasileiras de mestrado e de doutorado acadêmicos que envolvam “a tradução e o traduzir” ou “a interpretação e o interpretar” de/entre/para línguas de sinais. Para tanto, realizou-se uma busca nas produções acadêmicas de três programas brasileiros de pós-graduação em Estudos da Tradução, a saber: (1) o da Universidade Federal de Santa Catarina (PGET-UFSC); (2) o da Universidade de Brasília (POSTRAD-UnB); e (3) o da Universidade Federal do Ceará (POET-UFC). Identificou-se que, entre 2005 e 2022, os programas contaram com a defesa de 824 trabalhos de conclusão. Desse número total de trabalhos, 129 (15,6%) deles corresponderam aos critérios de seleção, sendo que, do total de 621 dissertações, 109 (17,4%) delas fazem parte dos ETILS, assim como 20 (9,8%) teses do total de 203. Com os trabalhos mapeados, algumas categorizações e análises foram realizadas em relação: ao enfoque central das pesquisas; à sua distribuição temporal; à autoria e ao perfil dos(as) pesquisadores(as); e a orientação dos trabalhos. De modo geral, observou-se o crescimento do número de pesquisas, ainda que haja certa oscilação nos quantitativos de defesas anuais, o que atesta o fato de os ETILS serem, atualmente, um campo consolidado, profícuo e em franca ascensão no país.

Translated abstract

Abstract The emergence of Sign Language Translation and Interpreting Studies (SLTIS) in recent years has been drive by research on sign language translation and interpreting, and related topics. Considering the development and consolidation of this field, this paper presents a mapping of Brazilian master’s and doctoral academic research focused on “translation and translating” or “interpretation and interpreting” from/between/to sign languages. To do this, a search was carried out in the academic productions of three Brazilian Graduate Programs in Translation Studies at: (1) the Federal University of Santa Catarina (PGET-UFSC); (2) the University of Brasília (POSTRAD-UnB); and (3) the Federal University of Ceará (POET-UFC). It was identified that, from 2005 to 2022, the programs had the completion of 824 research. Of this total number of research, 129 (15.6%) of them correspond to the selection criteria — of the total of 621 dissertations, 109 (17.4%) of them are within the scope of SLTIS, as well as 20 (9.8%) theses in a total of 203. Therefore, after mapping this academic production, some categorizations and analyses were conducted regarding: the central focus of the research; its temporal distribution; the authorship and profile of the researchers; and the research supervisors. In general, there has been an increase in research within the scope of SLTIS which shows that this field is consolidated, productive, and rapidly rising in Brazil.
