          Abstract

Angiomyxoma is a rare mesenchymal tumor arising in the pelvic and perineal regions. Diagnosis of urinary bladder angiomyxoma is difficult, as it lacks typical signs and symptoms, and relies on immunochemistry. We present the case of a 53 year old patient presenting with an incidental finding of bladder tumor during an ultrasound. After a complete transurethral resection was performed, the pathology report led to angiomyxoma diagnosis. After 6 weeks a secondary TURB, along with a CT urogram showed no evidence of residual volume. Transurethral resection seems to be a safe and effective treatment of urinary bladder angiomyxoma.

Recurrent aggressive angiomyxoma of the urinary bladder. Case report and review of the literature.

Aggressive angiomyxoma is a rare neoplasm which predominantly involves the female pelvis and perineum. Forty-four cases have been reported in the world literature, including 10 cases in men. To the best of our knowledge, the first case of recurrent aggressive angiomyxoma of the urinary bladder is presented here. Operative management, radiologic features and pathological findings are discussed. Copyright 2000 S. Karger AG, Basel

A rare benign genitourinary tumor in a Japanese male: urinary retention owing to aggressive angiomyxoma of the prostate

Close examination of a 67-year-old Japanese man, who complained of persistent nocturia, revealed that a semitransparent polypoid tumor had developed from the bladder neck to the prostatic urethra obstructing the internal urethral meatus, which resulted in excessive urinary retention and post-renal dysfunction. The tumor was resected by a transurethral procedure and a pathological examination of specimens revealed aggressive angiomyxoma (AAM) of the prostate. AAM usually develops in the intrapelvic and perineal organs of females. So far as we know, this is the second case of primary prostatic AAM reported in the English literature, and is the first case where the patient encountered urethral obstruction.

Endourologic Treatment for Aggressive Angiomyxoma of the Bladder

Abstract Background: Aggressive angiomyxoma (AA) is a rare tumor that usually appears in the female pelvic and perineal regions. It commonly has infiltrative behavior and high local recurrence risk. We report an unusual presentation of AA, originating in a female patient's bladder. Case Report: A 43-year-old female patient presented with recurrent urinary tract infection for 6 months; ultrasonography showed a bladder tumor that was diagnosed as AA by immunohistochemistry and treated with complete transurethral resection. Conclusion: Transurethral resection can be an effective approach for the treatment of AA.
