Abstract

A partir de la frecuente relación entre arte rupestre y rutas de tráfico en el desierto de Atacama, efectuamos un análisis del modelo de movilidad giratoria y su relación con algunos aspectos de la ritualidad andina, basado en el registro de dos yacimientos de la quebrada de Suca (Suca 7 y Suca 13), al sur de la hoya hidrográfica del río Camarones (subárea de Valles Occidentales, norte de Chile). Estos sitios se seleccionaron por su emplazamiento significativo y sus asociaciones contextuales. Primero se detallan los materiales y rasgos arqueológicos encontrados en cada sitio, y luego se describen sus manifestaciones rupestres. Con ello se plantea que los sitios presentan, además de posibles funciones logísticas dentro del modelo de movilidad giratoria, diferencias atribuibles a los distintos tipos de tráfico implicados: tráfico interregional y tráfico local, además de aspectos ligados a la apropiación del espacio y la ritualidad asociada a cada sitio. Este conjunto de variables permite avanzar en la caracterización de interacciones económicas e ideológicas en el desierto entre diferentes poblaciones prehispánicas tardías (1.000 a 1.350 d.C.)

This work analyses the strong and recognized relationship between rock art and traffic routes witin the Atacama Desert. The model of circuit mobility is analyzed and in addition Andean ritualism is considered. We describe the architectural, ceramic and rock art evidence from two adjacent sites in the interior of the Quebrada Suca, in the Valley of Camarones (Northern Chile). The sites Suca 7 and Suca 13 were selected for their significance within the landscape and contextual associations. The two sites present different logistical functions within the model of circuit mobility, for distinctive traffic, one being interregional and the other local and circumscribed to the gorge and adjacent valleys. Furthermore, the analysis of rock art permits observations about spatial appropriation, ritualism, and economic and ideological interactions among different late pre-Hispanic populations (A.D. 1,000 to 1,350) within the desert
