Abstract
The results show that rainbow trout (Salmo gairdneri) are able to concentrate NO2-
ions in the blood plasma. After 24 hr in water containing 0.7 mM/l NO2-, the blood
plasma contained about 5 mM/l NO2- suggesting that the gills have the ability to transport
NO2 against a concentration gradient.
