          Abstract

          Translated abstract

Abstract The generation of energy based on fossil fuels, as well as the methane (CH4) generated in livestock activity cause severe damage to the environment. The use of pig manure to generate renewable energy and revert contamination problems is a viable alternative for the Chiapas pig farms to be more competitive. A total of 39 technified pig farms distributed in 14 municipalities in the state of Chiapas were identified and with the methodologies of Chen, the United States Environmental Protection Agency (USEPA) and the United Nations Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) was estimated the potential of biogas, electric power and reduction of carbon dioxide equivalent (CO2eq). On the other hand, a financial evaluation was carried out for the biodigestor-motogenerator system with the Baca methodology on investment projects for two proposed sizes, of 500 and 1000 pigs; Financial indicators such as Net Present Value (NPV), Internal Rate of Return (IRR) and Benefit-Cost (B/C) for the two sizes evaluated were economically profitable.
