Abstract

Resumen En este artículo nos ocupamos centralmente de la influencia de Thomas Paine en las dos obras políticas más importantes de fray Servando Teresa de Mier. Nos interesa resaltar los conceptos, ideas, enunciados omitidos y apropiados por Mier del panfleto que el inglés publicó en 1776, Common Sense. Buscamos ubicarlos en su contexto narrativo para comprender los usos específicos que les determinó Mier, intencionalidades políticas en cada obra y su relación con el contexto de producción. Destacaremos las preocupaciones que ambos pensadores políticos tuvieron en común, el sustrato doctrinal que comparten. Intentamos realizar un tratamiento de las ideas desde la perspectiva de la historia de los lenguajes políticos.

Abstract This article focuses on the influence of Thomas Paine on two of the most important political works by Fray Servando Teresa de Mier, examining the concepts, ideas and political positions appropriated by Mier from Paine’s 1776 pamphlet Common Sense. The specific narrative context is utilized in order to understand the uses and political intentions behind each work and their place within Mier’s entire body of work. This article highlights the common concerns of both political thinkers and the doctrinal background they shared, approaching their ideas from the perspective of the history of political language.
