Abstract

Resumo Neste artigo, eu discuto a relação entre autoria, autoridade e escrita da história na Grécia antiga. Meu objetivo é oferecer algumas reflexões sobre o debate atual em torno do desenvolvimento da historiografia antiga e indicar o que considero ser os aspectos mais característicos dos textos históricos gregos. Em seguida, realizo dois estudos de caso a partir de trechos de Tucídides e Políbio a fim de testar meus argumentos. Com isso, eu espero oferecer um modelo explicativo básico que possa servir como ponto de partida para os interessados nesse assunto.

Abstract In this article, I discuss the relationship between authorship, authority and history writing in ancient Greece. My objective is twofold: to offer some thoughts on the current debate about the development of ancient historiography and to indicate what I consider to be the most prominent features of Greek historical texts. Subsequently, I present two case studies based on passages of Thucydides and Polybius in order to test my claims. With this, I hope to offer an introductory model that may work as a starting point for those interested in this subject.
