¿EVANGÉLICOS O AYMARAS?: DINÁMICAS DE LAS REPRESENTACIONES CULTURALES DE LOS EVANGÉLICOS AYMARAS (CHILE)

Abstract

Durante las últimas décadas el movimiento evangélico ha penetrado de manera significativa en las poblaciones aymaras del norte de Chile. La interacción de esta confesión religiosa con un entorno marcado por una larga tradición católica y andina, ha generado importantes reconfiguraciones en el movimiento evangélico aymara, afectando muchas de sus prácticas socioculturales. A partir del análisis de una serie de entrevistas y observaciones de campo realizadas a evangélicos aymaras de la región de Tarapacá, describiremos y analizaremos las principales representaciones culturales que se han desarrollado en el seno de este movimiento religioso, deteniéndonos en sus manifestaciones concretas a nivel simbólico, ritual, identitarioy lingüístico.

During the lastdecades the evangelical movement has penetrated significantly into Aymara communities of northern Chile. Important reconfigurations in the Aymara evangelical movement have appeared as a result ofthe interaction between the evangelical movement and a settling characterized by a long Catholic and Andean tradition. This interaction has also affected many ofits socio-cultu-ralpractices. Through the analysis ofinterviews with Aymara evangelicals in the region ofTarapacá, We describe andanalyze the main cultural representations that have developed within this religious movement, paying especial attention to its concrete manifestations in the symbolic, ritual, identity and language levels.
