Abstract
The IL-1 family of cytokines follows an unconventional pathway of secretion mostly
associated with inflammatory cell death. In this issue of Immunity, (Evavold et al.,
2017) report gasdermin D pores as channels for active IL-1 release in live phagocytic
cells.
