Abstract
Inflammation contributes to chronic kidney disease (CKD), in part mediated through
activation of interleukin (IL)-1β by the NLRP3 inflammasome within the kidney. This
process also likely contributes to the accelerated atherosclerosis associated with
nephropathy.
