          Abstract

          Nos proponemos estudiar en este artículo, dentro de una época decisiva para la historia del imperio bizantino, esto es, los siglos Vi al IX, un aspecto particular que dice relación con cambios que se operan en la mentalidad bizantina, en cuanto a sus concepciones históricas y religiosas. en efecto, en medio de una crisis generalizada de inseguridad, la población bizantina se volcó hacia la religión, depositando su confianza en la protección sobrenatural del imperio y su capital. Ai mismo tiempo, constatamos que el trabajo historiográfico pierde consistencia, ocupando su lugar la reflexión religiosa, dentro de un cuadro general de exaltaciones místicas y efervescencia escatológica. Dicho de otro modo, cuando se piensa que el fin del mundo es inminente, ya no tiene sentido escribir historia, pero sí lo tiene la interpretación de las profecías, de cara a la segunda venida del Mesías. se trata de un momento decisivo en la configuración de la mentalidad bizantina.

          Translated abstract

          We try to study in this article, within a critical time in the history of the Byzantine empire, that is, 6th to 9th Century, a particular aspect in relationship with changes operate in the Byzantine mentality, in his historical and religious conceptions. indeed, in the middle of a generalized crisis of insecurity, the Byzantine population turned toward religion, depositing their trutst in the supernatural protection of the empire and its capital. at the same time, we see how the historiographical work loses consistency, taking its place religious reflections within a general picture of mystical panegyrics and eschatological effervescence. in another way, when you think that the end of the world is imminent, no makes sense write history, but does it have the interpretation of the prophecies in regard to the second coming of the Messiah. TPus is a turning point in the configuration of the Byzantine mentality.
