Abstract

Resumo A presente resenha apresenta a obra Norbert Elias in troubled times, publicada em 2021 pela Palgrave McMillan, ainda inédita em português. Trata-se de um volume da coleção Palgrave Studies on Norbert Elias, que vem sendo publicada pela mesma editora e ganhando papel de destaque para os estudos da teoria do autor. A obra reúne capítulos que propõem leituras de questões atuais a partir da sociologia figuracional e processual de Elias, escritos por autores de diferentes partes do mundo que tratam de problemas locais e globais e que guardam em comum a característica de serem parte do que pode ser lido como um momento de crise civilizatória que atinge o mundo como um todo, embora se expresse de formas variadas em cada lugar. Trata-se de um volume cuidadosamente escrito e organizado para cumprir o principal propósito da sociologia e do sociólogo, de acordo com o próprio Elias, que é fornecer análises congruentes com a realidade dos fatos para que a humanidade possa conhecer melhor a si mesma e, a partir disso, ter melhores condições de orientar as próprias ações – portanto, uma contribuição fundamental em uma época como a nossa.

Abstract Norbert Elias in troubled times, published in 2021 by Palgrave McMillan and still unpublished in Portuguese, is a volume in the Palgrave Studies on Norbert Elias collection, which has been gaining a prominent role for studies of the author’s theory. The work brings together articles proposing readings of current issues based on Elias’s figurational and process sociology, written by authors from different parts of the world who deal with local and global problems, and who share the experience of being part of what can be read as a moment of civilizational crisis that affects the world as a whole, although expressed in different ways in each place. This volume is carefully written and organized to fulfill the main purpose of sociology and the sociologist, according to Elias himself, which is to provide a reality-congruent understanding of the facts, so that humanity can better know itself and, based on this, have better conditions to guide its own actions – therefore, a fundamental contribution in times such as ours.
