          Translated abstract

          Translated abstract

In his work "The concept of technology", Álvaro Vieira Pinto elaborates a philosophy of the technology from the peripheral perspective. The philosopher from Rio de Janeiro, defines the technique in an Aristotelian, anthropological and evolutionary form, as the essential mediation in the dialectic between man and nature, through the intentional process of the self existence. Influenced by Hegel and Marx, Pinto conceives a dialectical typology to sitúate technology in relation to underdevelopment. Reflecting his participation in the High Institute of Brazilian Studies (ISEB), he points out the issue of the ideologization of technology, as essential in the domination process of the center over the peripheral countries. The domination circle would be broken by a historical necessity, simultaneously subjective and objective, demanding the constitution of a national development project. This approach's problems are pointed out: an optimistic eschalology, the technique in iti elf as neulral, and the naturalizalion of history. Separately, his original contributions by means of his concept of conscienceforthe other, his dialectical concept of technological change, as well as his radical criticism to what he calls technological theology are emphasized.
