          Abstract

We calculate several differential distributions for the production of charm and dijets. Both single-parton scattering (SPS) and double-parton scattering (DPS) contributions are calculated in the \(k_T\)-factorization approach. The Kimber-Martin-Ryskin unintegrated parton distributions are used in our calculations. Relatively low cuts on jet transverse momenta are imposed to enhance the double-parton scattering mechanism contribution. We find dominance of the DPS contribution over the SPS one. We have found regions of the phase space where the SPS contribution is negligible compared to the DPS contribution. The distribution in transverse momentum of charm quark/antiquark or charmed mesons can be used to observe transition from the dominance of DPS at low transvsverse momenta to the dominance of SPS at large transverse momenta. Very distinct azimuthal correlation patterns (for \(c \bar{c}\), \(c\mathrm{\textit{-jet}}\), \(\mathrm{\textit{jet-jet}}\), \(D^0\mathrm{\textit{-jet}}\), \(D^0 D^0\)) are predicted as a result of the competition of the SPS and DPS mechanisms.

Open charm production at the LHC - \(k_{t}\)-factorization approach

          , (2013)
We discuss inclusive production of open charm in proton-proton scattering at LHC. The calculation is performed within the \(k_t\)-factorization approach. Different models of unintegrated gluon distributions (UGDF) from the literature are used. The theoretical transverse momentum as well as (pseudo)rapidity distributions of charmed mesons are compared with recent experimental data of ATLAS, ALICE and LHCb collaborations. Only the calculation with Kimber-Martin-Ryskin (KMR) UGDF gives results comparable to experimental ones. All other popular models of UGDF significantly underpredict experimental data. Several sources of uncertainties of the theoretical predictions are also studied in details. In addition we discuss correlations between \(D\) and \(\bar D\) mesons. Good description of experimental distribution in invariant mass and in relative azimuthal angle between \(D\) and \(\bar D\) mesons is achieved for the KMR UGDF. The considered correlation observables measured by the LHCb experiment were not discussed in other approaches in the literature.

Heavy quark production and gluon saturation in double parton scattering at LHC

The production of \(c\bar{c}c\bar{c}\), \(b\bar{b}b\bar{b}\) and \(c\bar{c}b\bar{b}\) pairs considering double parton scattering at LHC energies is investigated. We estimate the contribution of saturation effects to the different final states and predict the energy dependence of the cross sections. Moreover, we estimate the ratio between the double and single parton scattering cross sections for the full rapidity range of the LHC and for the rapidity range of the LHCb experiment. For the full rapidity range we confirm a previous prediction, namely that for charm production the double parton scattering contribution becomes comparable with the single parton scattering one at LHC energies. We also demonstrate that this result remains valid when one introduces saturation effects in the calculations. Finally we show that the production of \(c\bar{c}b\bar{b}\) contributes significantly to bottom production. For the LHCb kinematical range the ratio is strongly reduced.

Prompt Upsilon(nS) production at the LHC in the Regge limit of QCD

We study prompt Upsilon(nS) hadroproduction (n=1,2,3) invoking the hypothesis of gluon Reggeization in t-channel exchanges at high energy and the factorization formalism of nonrelativistic quantum chromodynamics at leading order in the strong-coupling constant alpha_s and the relative velocity v of the bound quarks. The transverse-momentum distributions of prompt Upsilon(nS)-meson production measured by the ATLAS Collaboration at the CERN LHC are fitted to obtain the color-octet nonperturbative long-distance matrix elements, which are used to predict prompt Upsilon(nS) production spectra measured by the CMS and LHCb Collaborations. At the numerical calculation, we adopt the Kimber-Martin-Ryskin prescription to derive unintegrated gluon distribution function of the proton from its collinear counterpart, for which we use the Martin-Roberts-Stirling-Thorne set. We find good agreement with measurements by the ATLAS, CMS and LHCb Collaborations at the LHC at the hadronic c.m. energy sqrt S=7 TeV as well as with measurements by the CDF Collaboration at the Fermilab Tevatron.
