Knowing about risk factors and also what contributes to a healthy heart can help to prevent cardiovascular disease (CVD). Coronary heart disease-related deaths declined by more than 20% between 1990-2000, but it remains the world’s leading cause of death. Researchers believe increased awareness and access to evidence-based treatment and affordable drugs can lead to a greater reduction in cardiovascular disease.
